On  February 27, 2027 Santa Clara University will play a match against Loyola Marymount University at Monterey Peninsula Country Club.  The event is designed to support the golf programs of both universities and promote great competition between two prominent West Coast Conference programs.  Both programs have been successful under Andrew Larkin (Santa Clara) and Jason D’Amore (Loyola) and are turning out great kids and potential participants on the PGA Tour.  Santa Clara graduate Matt McCarty is the latest Bronco to establish himself on tour and was ranked 50th in the FedEx Cup standings.    Sophomore Matt Robles qualified for the US Open at Shinnecock with a six under 2 day qualifier at the Sacramento,  California site and played this past June at Shinnecock.  LMU player Riley Lewis is on the Korn Ferry Tour  and LMU boasts a number of players who have played in PGA events.   Supporters of both programs will tee it up at a fun event at the Preserve in the Carmel Highlands on the Monday preceding the event at MPCC.

Competition will be match play with a practice round before the event as well,  preceded by an inaugural dinner at MPCC’s beach club facility.  The vision for the match was to align the values of the golf programs with competition and the values that both schools engender through their programs as well as to provide financial assistance for these collegiate golf programs.   The event has been approved by the NCAA and we extend our profound appreciation to the Monterey Peninsula Country as the inaugural venue and appreciate the Preserve for opening their wonderful venue for our donors.  MPCC continues its tradition of supporting amateur and collegiate golf programs and the schools are most appreciative of MPCC’s willingness for the inaugural event to take place here.

The expectation is that the event will become an annual event and revert to Los Angeles in 2028.
