For those of you that follow these posts know that I have soured on the Ryder Cup in recent years. My minority view is that the tolerated jingoistic fan behavior makes it difficult for the visiting squad to win these matches. The players readily accept the rowdiness, insults and catcalls from the fans against the visiting squad so in recent years, the home team usually wins the Cup. The USA team was thoroughly destroyed in Italy and I’m sure that is clearly on the minds of the team as they head for Bethpage Black. They are certainly taken things seriously as a number of team members including Scottie Scheffler participated in the last PGA Tour lesser event in Napa, California (won by Scheffler). I believe that the home squad has a 2-3 point home advantage in the matches overall, so the visiting team has to dominate the event to secure the Cup.
I’m going to toss my minority views aside and offer the reader an opportunity to win a free copy of PARdon Me and an unspecified prize for picking the winner of the Cup with the closest scores. The unspecified prize will be pretty good so I would encourage your participation and add some incentive to your viewing of the matches.
For the record, I am predicting a halved match of 14-14, whereby Europe will retain the Cup. The only rule is to submit your result by midnight Thursday, the day before the matches commence. I will accept replies to this site or emails can also be sent to: thebronsongroup@gmail.com. The unspecified gift (prize) will be awarded only if I received a minimum of 50 entries, which would amount to only a 10% participation rate. (maybe less as I haven’t tallied the entire readership lately)
Enjoy the matches as the best players in the world tackle what is heralded as the most difficult course in the country (may be world). We’ll see if Scottie Scheffler can lead the USA to a better result than I have predicted.
