Golf Chronicles BBQ-The First Tee of Silicon Valley

Loot from the BBQ

We hosted a BBQ at our home on June 6 with a small group of golfers to benefit The First Tee of Silicon Valley.  George Maxe, Executive Director of The First Tee of Silicon Valley, joined us.  The idea was to donate used clubs for the kids that participate in The First Tee of Silicon Valley.  We all have clubs in our garages that don’t work for us anymore while we continue to pursue the latest technology to improve our games.  Besides, we could all use additional garage space.

The First Tee of Silicon Valley is dedicated to youth development in a series of core values so that the participants can realize their potential in society.  Golf is the medium for the program as the game intrinsically imparts many of the values required in society.

George covered how the organization works and how the program executes its programs to numbers of kids from ages 8-16 in San Jose.  The program is very effective and the enthusiasm of the participants and their parents is well documented.  The group was very interested in the program and the quality of the clubs donated will really benefit the kids.  A Scotty Cameron putter was part of the loot and one of our guests decided to buy it on the spot providing a cash infusion for the program.

We’re going to plan another BBQ in the fall to do it again as we need to get those invitees who were unable to make it on this night.  It was a great way to spend an evening and support a great cause.
